Future martial arts masters at Devizes Budo Club will be able to develop their skills safely, thanks to a generous donation from local heating oil supplier, Butler Fuels.
The community sports group and registered charity, situated on Dunkirk Hill, has been teaching Judo, Aikido and Karate to local residents since 1957. With an emphasis on beginners classes for 2013, the club was in need of new crash mats to give learners of all ages the confidence to fall safely.
Butler Fuels, located on London Road, donated £300 to the club, after Richard Hopkins, charity trustee and head coach, applied to the company for funding. The donation was made as part of its sports bursary scheme, which aims to support sports groups across Devizes.
Speaking about the donation, Richard said: “Crash mats offer great reassurance to beginners and the ones we had were in need of replacing, something we would be unable to do without the support of companies such as Butler Fuels.
“The new mats will not only ensure we maintain a high level of safety, but also enable our new members to build their confidence as quickly as possible and achieve their full potential.”
